I believe it was sometime last year I tweeted something vague along the lines of
“I wanna do a comic series, I don’t know how but I wanna try it out”
I’ve been doing a lot of research and studying since that tweet and I think I’m finally ready to get started on this idea soon.
Lately I’ve just been trying to write and build up the story for the main character. I know what I want him to look like but I need to make sure his story does justice to his look, so we’ll see how long this whole process takes. I obviously have a lot of other things in my life to deal with so I’m thinking of making these vague but intriguing 2-3 panels / 1 page illustrations, which I would have to assume will be really difficult to accomplish for a first timer.
I plan on doing at least 2 of these to start with and the rest will follow according to response. As I mentioned though, still just taking notes and putting everything on paper for now in terms character developments, storyline, environments etc.
Might need some outside help and suggestions too along the way (which I hate asking for) but anyways…that’s what’s up

Also, I was supposed to have finished the Derrick Rose joint by now, but things come up and I tend to sacrifice my own personal projects for others too much. Anyways, after I’m done dealing with these other clients, I’m dedicating some time for my own work and building up my own portfolio doing stuff I want to do instead of being handed these other assignments which I don’t have a problem with but I honestly can’t get too inspired for other people’s ideas the way I do when I work on my own stuff.
aaaaaand I’m out to shovel my driveway in mid-March because that’s what makes me a Canadian, peace peace PEACE!

Other Awards:
EOY: Gary Sacks
1st Team All-NBA:
PG - Chris Paul
SG - Dwyane Wade
SF - Kevin Durant
PF - LeBron James
C - Dwight Howard
———
I know the season isn’t over yet, but I think most people can probably pick the winners at this stage the way the season has gone. This is just my take of the award distribution for this year, opinions will likely vary.

I will never get used to sharing my work before its finished but here it is again, a little preview for the blog
.
Current W.I.P: “El Mata-Rose” - Derrick Rose as a Matador. Illustration is still in the early stages, I have a few more elements I’m going to add (another character..don’t ask me who/what, background etc.). Doing research for this and having a little bit of prior knowledge about bullfighting culture (one my TA’s for a sociology class was Spanish, told me the horrific part about the sport they never show in cartoons…its a fight to the death, man vs bull) I noticed that the clothing and persona of the matadors was real feminine (to me anyways) so that is what I’m trying to get at with this depiction of Rose. Don’t get me wrong, he’s one of my favorite players and is a beast, but I gotta work with the theme, and once I add the other elements it won’t look as disrespectful hopefully (if it does so right now)
Aiming to get this done by the end of the week so I can get started on the other projects lined up (few more NBA pieces).

There is no such thing as a creative block, don’t make excuses for your lack of effort in tapping into the deeper layers of your imagination.
