Dope photography series “Hutong - Darkness Illuminated” by Christopher Domakis

“Hutong” is the Chinese word for typical old town districts in Beijing. You’ll find many of them in the very center of the city. While Beijing is moving fast, developing new districts and constructing massive infrastructure projects, there are still some Hutongs which provide daily life which you would expect only in villages far away from modern metropoles as Beijing. The density and the warm and friendly atmosphere feels like entering a parallel universe. It’s dirty, dusty, quiet, there are no cars compared to outside of the Hutongs and the rush is gone. The fast growing urban area of Beijing is usually bright, noisy and more and more fancy with shopping malls, huge streets, light shows and many tourists walking around.
In cold winter nights (as you can see below from january to april) most of the streetlife moves inside the small houses and behind closed doors but fortunately as a result of the high density, I was able to catch a glimpse now and then. Light is the biggest contrast to the “world outside” ….just because there’s none. Walking around in the middle of the night in one of the biggest cities on the planet in the very center listening to some people talking very quietly and some distant sounds far far away made me even more interested in these old districts of Beijing….surrounded by darkness and silence.

Since I’ve been eating raspberry jam way more than I have in the past, I figured I do a quick bit of research to see its benefits. And for the record, I did real research, but I couldn’t find an article which broke it down like it did on wiki-fitness, but take my word, the information is legit.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF RASPBERRIES
—-

Increase Immunity: Raspberry is rich source of Vitamin C which increases immunity. It is beneficial as it protect against common disease like cold, flu and infections.
Cancer: Raspberry is effective against cancer due to it rich antioxidants content. These antioxidants provide raspberry anti-cancerous property. Cancer cells are formed due to free radical produced due to oxidative stress. But antioxidants are effective to neutralize this free radical due to its high ORAC value. ORAC value (Oxygen Radiance Absorption Capacity) of raspberry is 4900 micro-moles per 100 gram. So it protect against cancer and tumor.
Eye Health: Eating raspberry improves eye vision. Since raspberry is rich in antioxidants, it protect eye retina from oxidative stress. So it is effective in preventing loss of eye vision or macular degeneration.
Ageing: Early ageing is common due to increase in pollution, UV rays, smoke and stress. Due to this factor oxidation stress is stimulated which produce free radicals. These free radicals are harmful to body. But raspberries are rich in antioxidants which neutralize these free radicals. Thus it protects body from free radicals which cause ageing.
Inflammation: Raspberry is rich in phytonutrient, antioxidants and tannins which proves effective to prevent inflammation of stomach, intestine and cardiovascular system
Diabetes: Raspberry stimulates body to produce adiponectin to maintain sugar and insulin level in type 2 Diabetes patient. Thus it prevents the spike of blood sugar level in diabetes patient and prevents complications due to sugar level spike.
Healthy Weight Loss: Raspberry ketone found in raspberry is effective to burn fat stored in abdominal region. Thus this reduces fat deposit and also reduces the fat storage in abdomen. It is also effective as it reduce the capacity of body to absorb excess fat. So raspberry is effective to burn fat and promotes healthy weight loss.
Blood Formation: Raspberry is rich in copper which increase the production of red blood cells.
Maintain cardiovascular health: Raspberry is rich in potassium which helps to maintain heart beat and blood pressure.
Women’s health: It is good for promoting women health. Eating raspberry decrease menstrual flow during menstrual cycle, reduce pain during child birth, prevents hemorrhage, relieve nausea and good for lactating mother.
